Recently, China’s first regional Type-C trains developed by CRRC Changchun have achieved 4+4 coupled operation on the Shanghai Suburban Railway Airport Link Line. The line has now entered a new phase of coordinated operation with three formations—four-car, eight-car, and 4+4 coupled sets—enabling flexible capacity allocation to efficiently meet both daily and peak passenger demand.
The trains adopt an innovative design where both end cars and intermediate cars share the same length, ensuring consistent door spacing after coupling. As a result, the platform screen doors can precisely align with train doors regardless of whether four-car or 4+4 coupled formations are used, eliminating the need for platform modifications and greatly improving the operational flexibility and cost efficiency.
By connecting with lines such as the Jia-Min Line and the Demonstration Zone Line, the Airport Link Line will serve the broader Yangtze River Delta region. CRRC will continue to enhance the quality of its train products and services for this line, injecting strong rail-driven momentum into coordinated regional development.
