Recently, 25 16-megawatt (MW) ultra-large-capacity offshore wind turbine generators supplied by CRRC Zhuzhou Motor were deployed as part of a batch of offshore wind turbine units in the deep offshore waters of Yangjiang, Guangdong. The project represents another large-scale demonstration of China’s high-capacity offshore wind technology under complex deep offshore conditions. Once fully connected to the grid, the project is expected to generate 1.41 billion kWh of clean electricity annually, providing strong green power to support the energy transition of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
Designed for the challenging conditions of deep offshore environments, CRRC’s generator products feature a proven marine corrosion protection and insulation system, with enhanced resistance to salt spray, vibration and severe typhoons. Combining high efficiency, reliability and lightweight design, the generators are well suited to long-term operation in deep offshore environments.
The large-scale deployment of high-capacity offshore wind turbines is an important indicator of the offshore wind power industry’s transition from technological breakthroughs to industrial maturity. Previously, CRRC supported the grid connection of the world’s first 16 MW offshore wind turbine and contributed to the first large-scale deployment of 16 MW-class turbines in China at the Zhangpu Phase II Offshore Wind Farm in Fujian.
