Recently, the first seven trains for Shanghai Metro Line 22 (Chongming Line), developed and manufactured by CRRC ZELC, arrived at the Dongjing Road Depot in Shanghai. Following hoisting, the trains will undergo acceptance testing and commissioning, marking the project's full entry into the vehicle delivery and commissioning stage. As Shanghai's first integrated procurement project combining “rolling stock supply with long-term maintenance services”, the Chongming Line will help usher Chongming Island into the metro era.
The Chongming Line trains feature a three-car, all-powered configuration and are equipped with a GoA4 fully automated train operation system. They support intelligent functions such as automatic coupling and uncoupling during operation on the main line and have a maximum operating speed of 120 km/h. Advanced technologies, including silicon carbide (SiC) auxiliary converters and oil-free air compressors, have been widely applied, enhancing the trains' energy efficiency and environmental performance.
The train design seamlessly integrates Chongming's ecological identity with traditional Chinese culture. Centered around the imagery of the Oriental Dragon, the design incorporates local elements of Chongming, including terraced fields, rivers, and reeds, creating a distinctive aesthetic that combines cultural heritage with a vision of the future. Upon completion, the Chongming Line will further integrate Chongming Island into Shanghai's comprehensive transportation network and provide more extensive rail transit coverage across Shanghai.
