Qihang: China’s 20 MW Floating Wind Turbine Marks a New Milestone for Deep-Sea Wind Power
China CRRC's independently developed Qihang is a 20 MW floating offshore wind turbine designed for deep-sea deployment.
Its scale is remarkable:
✔️ 280 m total height.
✔️ 260 m rotor diameter.
✔️ Swept area equal to approximately seven football fields.
✔️ Up to 62 million kWh of electricity generated annually.
At rated wind speed, a single rotation can generate approximately 40 kWh.
The Qihang prototype was installed in Dongying, Shandong, in January, connected to the grid in June, and granted market-access approval at the end of the year.
As China's first large-scale deep-sea floating wind power project, Qihang demonstrates how floating technology can unlock the next generation of offshore renewable energy.
