Global Electric Vehicle Market
The global EV market is growing rapidly, driven by emissions regulations and demand for sustainable transport. In 2025, global EV sales surpassed 17 million units, with China, Europe and North America the three largest regional markets — creating enormous demand for high-performance electric drive systems.
The Technical Challenge
Modern electric drive systems require precise, real-time current measurement for motor vector control, regenerative braking and system protection. With 800V architectures and SiC inverters mainstream, the solution must deliver:
• Accuracy within ±3% across -40°C to +125°C
• Bandwidth up to 50 kHz for high-frequency PWM control
• Galvanic isolation rated to 3.9 kV AC (1 min withstand)
• Response time ≤ 2 μs for overcurrent fault detection
CRRC Hall Effect Current Sensor Solution
CRRC's open-loop Hall effect sensor series provides an integrated three-phase sensing solution optimized for automotive traction inverters. A proprietary magnetic core with precision Hall elements measures bidirectional DC/AC currents up to ±1500 A, delivering ratiometric voltage output proportional to primary current.
Designed for direct mounting on busbars or integration into inverter power modules, the sensor achieves excellent linearity (≤ ±1% IPN) with minimal thermal drift. Factory calibration over the full temperature range eliminates end-of-line adjustment.
Deployment in Mass-Produced EV Platforms
Deployed in mass-produced passenger EV platforms since 2024: each traction inverter (front and rear axle) integrates one three-phase sensor module, providing synchronized Ia/Ib/Ic feedback to the MCU. The solution supports mainstream 400V and 800V battery architectures with precise torque control across all driving modes. Zero field failures related to current measurement to date.
