TISCO is Happy with Ziyang-Made Green Locomotive

As a leading enterprise in the development of hybrid locomotives in China, CRRC Ziyang has created three firsts in such field.
In October 2010, China's first 1000kW hybrid locomotive was successfully developed, filling the gap in the field of new energy diesel locomotive of China;
In January 2015, with the guidance of China Railway, the world’s most powerful hybrid locomotive HXN6 went off the production line successfully, and it obtained the Type License & Manufacture License of Railway Rolling Stock issued by the National Railway Administration in 2020, which is the only locomotive that has obtained double-certificate in China now;
In June 2021, China's first commercial refurbished hybrid locomotive was delivered successfully.
The refurbished hybrid locomotive independently researched and developed by CRRC Ziyang makes new achievements again——
On the afternoon of August 13th, a red-white-black refurbished hybrid locomotive, hauling the wagons fully loaded with 1400 tons of molten iron, passed through the S-curve smoothly, on the 9‰ ramp of No. 2 blast furnace transport operation area in Taiyuan Iron & Steel (TISCO). It fully meets the strict heavy-load requirements of molten iron transportation, and TISCO is satisfied with the traction performance of the locomotive.


This marks that the refurbished locomotive not only can replace the original locomotive operation in traction capacity, but also is better than the original one in fuel saving, noise and emission reduction, so that’s why it is deeply loved by the user.
The two units of refurbished hybrid locomotive supplied to TISCO are HD HD-001 and HD-002 respectively, and they are the second batch of green locomotives that have been refurbished and reconstructed from the old ones by using mature and reliable hybrid technology. The first batch of refurbished hybrid locomotive was delivered to Ma Steel this June successfully.
By "Achieving Carbon Peaking and Responding to Carbon Neutrality", CRRC Ziyang takes practical actions to implement the national strategy.
And one of the specific measures is to use hybrid technology to carry out refurbishment and reconstruction of old traditional locomotives.

The two units of hybrid locomotive supplied to TISCO are refurbished from the Dongfanghong 5 locomotives produced in the 1980s.
The locomotive makes full use of the original equipment and realizes refurbishment and reconstruction with less modification cost, stepping into the hybrid traction that is the current mainstream development direction of shunting locomotive, so as to achieve environmental protection, energy saving, noise reduction, and operating costs reduction.
The refurbished locomotive can achieve three traction modes of power battery traction, diesel engine traction, or hybrid traction of power battery and diesel engine, and the priority is given to power battery. Under the condition of ground charging, the locomotive can save fuel at least 90% compared with the original locomotive in the same operation.

As the power battery is the main traction mode, the whole locomotive environment for drivers and crew is more friendly, the locomotive noise and vibration are greatly reduced, and the emission of exhaust pollutants is also significantly reduced.
By “Making all-out effort to reduce carbon emissions and achieve carbon peaking in advance”, CRRC Ziyang adheres to the path of green, low-carbon, sustainable and healthy development. Up to now, CRRC Ziyang has provided nearly 30 units of new energy locomotives for all kinds of users by using the hybrid technology platform. At present, CRRC Ziyang is vigorously developing more new-mode green rail transit equipment, contributing CRRC's share to achieve China's goal of Carbon Peaking and Carbon Neutrality!
