The SS4 improved electric locomotive is an 8-axle freight locomotive, which consists of two identical 4-axle locomotives connected by a coupler and a coupled gangway. The two workshops are equipped with electrical system high-voltage connectors, multiple operation control cables and air brake system control ducts, which can synchronously control the entire vehicle in any vehicle's cab. The two workshops can also be separated and used independently as a 4-axle locomotive.
1.Unequally divided three-section half-controlled bridge thyristor phase-controlled voltage regulation and third harmonic filter are used to improve the locomotive power factor; the traction characteristics are constant current quasi-constant speed characteristic control. The resistance brake is the feedback resistance braking.
2.The low-position inclined traction rod is used, which has high adhesion performance.
3.It has an idling protection device and an axle weight transfer compensation device, which improves the adhesion traction of the locomotive.
4.Use forced self-guided oil circulation and all-aluminum plate-fin oil radiator.

6.Multifunctional electronic control devices including traction control, electric brake control, axle load compensation control, idling protection control, power factor compensation control and electro-pneumatic combined braking control are adopted.
