On September 8, 2026, the commissioning ceremony for the first batch of CRRC Ziyang diesel locomotives was held at the headquarters of the Moroccan National Railways Office (ONCF). Chinese Ambassador to Morocco Yu Jinsong, ONCF Director-General Mr. Mohamed Rabie Khlie, and CRRC Ziyang Chairman Chen Zhixin, attended the ceremony and delivered speeches. Zheng Wei, Counselor of the Chinese Embassy in charge of commercial affairs, also participated.
Mr. Mohamed Rabie Khlie stated that CRRC Ziyang overcame transportation challenges and delivered the first batch of five locomotives on schedule in just seven months, fully demonstrating the contract fulfillment capability of Chinese enterprises. The timely arrival of these locomotives provides important support for the modernization of Morocco's railway and the transportation infrastructure for the 2030 World Cup.
Chen Zhixin expressed gratitude to ONCF for selecting CRRC Ziyang as the locomotive supplier. He stated that, under the guidance of the Belt and Road Initiative and the China-Morocco strategic partnership, CRRC Ziyang looks forward to taking the commissioning of these locomotives as a starting point to continuously deepen pragmatic cooperation with Morocco and further expand the scope of collaboration.
Ambassador Yu stated that rail transit is a model of China-Morocco infrastructure cooperation. The diesel locomotives put into service today represent a vivid example of "Chinese power" being integrated into Morocco's railway network. The Chinese Embassy in Morocco will continue to serve as a "bridge of connectivity" between the two countries, fully supporting enterprises from both sides in deepening exchanges and cooperation across various fields, and promoting the continuous enhancement and upgrading of the China-Morocco strategic partnership.
The diesel locomotives delivered this time are AC transmission locomotives featuring a double-cab design and an internal corridor, primarily designed to meet the needs of mainline passenger and freight services. The model has been tailor-made for Morocco's complex climate conditions and mainline railway operations, achieving internationally advanced standards in traction performance, weather resistance, environmental indicators, and intelligent operation and maintenance.
