“Check the oil pressure, temperature, air pressure, etc. Everything is OK!" On October 26th, with the operator pressing the start button, this batch of 6 diesel locomotives "made by CRRC Ziyang" were successfully started and tested at Kuantan Track-laying Base in Malaysia, fully preparing for the transportation of track materials for the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) Project.
It is reported that the ECRL Project is an important infrastructure project in the planning of Malaysia's East Coast Economic Zone. With a total length of 665 kilometers, it is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2026. It is regarded as a "Land Bridge" connecting the east and west coasts of Malaysia. It is the flagship project jointly built by China and Malaysia under the Belt and Road Initiative and undertaken by China Communications Construction Company Limited (hereinafter referred to as CCCC).
The six locomotives launched this time are the first diesel locomotive project jointly cooperated by two Chinese enterprises, CRRC and CCCC, in Malaysia.
As a key equipment for track-laying construction, CRRC Ziyang has designed these 6 diesel locomotives tailored to Malaysia's local environment for corrosion prevention and moisture protection, optimized the structure of key components such as locomotive diesel engines, improved the quality of locomotive piping and oil-water pipelines, and ensured the reliable quality and safe operation of locomotives.
The locomotive adopts AC-DC electric transmission, suitable for 1435mm standard gauge, with a total length of 22m, a service weight of 150t, and a maximum running speed of 100 km/h.
Up to now, the rail transit equipment provided by CRRC Ziyang to Malaysia cover superior spare parts, diesel shunting locomotives, diesel mainline locomotives, and DMUs.
