Recently, Thaipusam, a major religious festival of Hinduism in Malaysia, was held in Kuala Lumpur. The festival has attracted approximately 1.5 million Hindu devotees to gather at the "Batu Caves" for solemn pilgrimage rituals, while a large number of tourists also flocked to witness this unique cultural celebration.
The SCS intercity EMU, developed by CRRC ZELC, serves as the primary public transportation vehicle through the "Batu Caves". Operating non-stop for 4 days and 3 nights, it has provided seamless travel services to accommodate the massive passenger flow during the festival.
Loke Siew Fook, Minister of Malaysian Transport, and Mohd Rani Hisham Sarbini, CEO of KTMB (Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad) Group, took the SCS train to experience the travel service. Minister Loke announced that the SCS train will be expanded to all commute stations in Klang Valley for meeting surging ridership demand, with free rides for 48 hours implemented to optimize mobility throughout the religious celebration.
Since undertaking the maintenance services for SCS intercity EMU in 2011, CRRC Kuala Lumpur Maintenance Sdn Bhd has served the Malaysia’s Thaipusam Festival for 13 consecutive years. With solid technical support and efficient operation support, it has ensured the reliable operation of the trains and won high recognition from both the clients and passengers across the region.
