In July, more than 40 students and teachers from Gansu, Guangxi, and Qinghai traveled to Datong and Beijing for CRRC’s 2026 High-Speed Rail Discovery Tour, a study program designed to give students from less-accessible communities greater exposure to science, technology, culture, and education. The group traveled to Datong and Beijing for a series of educational and cultural activities.
On July 28, the study tour officially opened at the corporate history museum of CRRC Datong Co., Ltd. Students received models of electric locomotives and mining dump trucks and presented their own drawings in return.
Fu Yongjun, Party Secretary and Chairman of CRRC Datong Co., Ltd., encouraged the students to make the most of the experience and explore new possibilities for their future. Niu Weidong, Head of the Party Affairs Department of CRRC Group, also encouraged them to use the study tour as an opportunity to learn, explore, and think about what they might achieve in the years ahead.
The students then joined a “CRRC Science-Connect Talk,” where engineers explained how wheel treads, flanges, and differences in wheel diameter help trains negotiate curves.
At CRRC Datong Co., Ltd.’s production facilities, students observed key stages of rail vehicle manufacturing, from component assembly and testing to complete vehicle production. They also saw large mining trucks and visited a model worker innovation studio displaying patents, awards, and achievements in technical innovation.
The group visited the Datong Museum, Yungang Grottoes, Huayan Temple, and Yingxian Wooden Pagoda, learning about the history, cultural exchanges, architecture, and craftsmanship of the region.
In Beijing, the students visited Tiananmen Square, the National Museum of China, Tsinghua University, the China Science and Technology Museum, and the Military Museum of the Chinese People’s Revolution.
The visits gave them opportunities to experience science, technology, education, and history beyond the classroom.
During a “My Hometown” session, students introduced the landscapes, local products, and traditions of their hometowns in Gansu, Guangxi, and Qinghai, while also sharing their reflections on the study tour.
Li Jianhang, a student from Napo, Guangxi, expressed his appreciation for the opportunity to see high-speed rail firsthand and learn more about China’s development.
Yu Lan, a student from Tianshui, Gansu, said the journey helped her better understand perseverance and see more possibilities for her own future.
Connecting Young Aspirations with the Future
The High-Speed Rail Discovery Tour is a long-running CRRC public welfare initiative that provides students with opportunities to experience rail technology, science, culture, and higher education beyond their local communities.
Through factory visits, cultural activities, and educational experiences, the program aims to broaden students’ exposure to new learning opportunities and support their personal development.
