CRRC Corporation Limited is accelerating its transition toward high-quality and sustainable development by advancing environmental, social and governance (ESG) practices, as China’s rail equipment sector shifts from scale-driven growth to value-oriented development.
In recent years, CRRC has received multiple national and international recognitions, including the Belt and Road Contribution Award and inclusion in the Fortune China ESG Impact List. The company has maintained an A-level information disclosure rating on the Shanghai Stock Exchange for 10 consecutive years and has been recognized for best practices in investor relations and corporate reporting.
On April 11, 2026, CRRC was named an “Annual ESG Model Enterprise” at the 2026 China ESG Gala, in recognition of its performance in green development, technological innovation, social responsibility and corporate governance.

Green development driven by innovation
CRRC has focused on improving energy efficiency through technological innovation. During the development of the CR450 high-speed train, the company optimized aerodynamic design, materials and traction systems to reduce operational resistance by about 22% and energy consumption by around 20%. The use of energy recovery and intelligent control technologies further improved efficiency.
CRRC has set targets to achieve operational carbon neutrality by 2035 and full value-chain carbon neutrality by 2050. It is advancing a “dual-track” development model covering rail transit equipment and new energy equipment, integrating green and intelligent manufacturing. The Carbon Peak and Carbon Neutrality Action Plan, released in 2023, sets out a detailed roadmap. It is guided by a structured implementation framework and a series of action programs, while advancing a “6G” approach - covering green investment, green innovation, green manufacturing, green products, green services and green enterprises - to build comprehensive green and low-carbon competitiveness across ten key areas.
In 2024, CRRC launched seven new energy locomotive models, including battery-powered and hydrogen fuel cell systems, and released a carbon footprint report for a pure electric locomotive. In 2025, a hydrogen-powered tourism train “Qingchun” rolled off the production line in Changchun, while a hydrogen-powered intercity train completed full-scenario testing, offering solutions for non-electrified railways in cold regions.

CRRC has also strengthened environmental management through digital systems, reducing greenhouse gas emission intensity and improving energy efficiency. It currently operates 51 national-level green factories and has established multiple zero-carbon factories and workshops. A digital platform has been introduced to support resource recycling and standardized materials management.
Supporting global connectivity and local development

CRRC Conducts On-Site Services And System Training At The Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Railway Operation Site
CRRC continues to expand its international operations while promoting local capacity building. At the Jakarta–Bandung High-Speed Railway operation site in Indonesia, local technicians are now able to independently carry out train maintenance following training and on-site support from CRRC.
The company has adopted a “Five Localization” model covering manufacturing, employment, procurement, maintenance and management, enhancing the contribution of its projects to host economies. Its products and services are now used in 116 countries and regions, including 52 participating in Belt and Road cooperation.
Since its launch in 2023, the Jakarta–Bandung High-Speed Railway has transported more than 12 million passengers and recorded over 5.9 million kilometers of safe operation. In Colombia, the Medellín Metro Line 80 project entered construction in 2025, with a focus on local sourcing and workforce development.

Domestically, CRRC has also contributed to social development. In 2023, it led the establishment of China’s first National Industry-Education Integration Consortium in rail transit equipment, bridging the gap between talent development and industry demand. In its rural development and revitalization efforts, CRRC has supported communities in Tianshui, Gansu, and Jingxi, Guangxi, through infrastructure projects, “CRRC Libraries,” and study programs aimed at expanding access to knowledge and development opportunities.

Strengthening governance for sustainable growth
CRRC has integrated ESG principles into its corporate strategy and management systems. The company has established a governance framework “33416” centered on its ESG strategy, with oversight at the board level and implementation across management and business units.
A dedicated strategy and sustainability committee has been set up to guide ESG-related decisions, and selected ESG indicators have been incorporated into performance evaluation.

In compliance, CRRC has appointed a chief compliance officer and developed a company-wide compliance management system “CRRC C” supported by digital tools. Measures including supplier blacklists and integrity management mechanisms have been introduced to strengthen governance across the supply chain.
Looking ahead, CRRC said it will continue to advance green technologies, strengthen international cooperation and improve governance, contributing to global sustainable development through innovation in rail transport and related industries.
