China News, Changsha, on September 23rd (Liang Chao): CRRC Zhuzhou Locomotive Co, Ltd (hereinafter referred to as CRRC ZELC) announced on September 23 that it has unveiled its world’s first supercapacitor + battery hybrid shunting locomotive at InnoTrans 2016, which called the eyes of customers all around the world.

This hybrid shunting locomotive, made by CRRC Zhuzhou Locomotive Co, Ltd (hereinafter referred to as CRRC ZELC) in collaboration with Austrian Tecsol company, was an upgraded one based on its class 1063 electric shunting locomotives carried out by Austrian Federal Railways.

In 2014, Austrian Federal Railways (OBB), Austrain Ministry of Transport and Technology has jointly engaged in a scientific research, looking for a power solution for its mainline electric shunting locomotives in no-electrified area around the world, but didn’t find the desirable partner.

In 2016, considering the Austrian operating environment and with rich experience in the application of energy storage and development of railway transportation equipment, CRRC ZELC provided it with the power solution of supercapacitor + battery features low carbon, environmental friendly and green.

By using the supercapacitor and battery as power supply on the hybrid shunting locomotive, not only the difficulties for replacing the locomotive’s head in no-electrified areas are overcame, but also the traction/brake power and energy feedback efficiency are improved, therefore, the shunter can run on no-electrified area without any pollution and emmission.

CRRC ZELC has been committed to offering the customers with top-class products and services. Aimed at green and intelligent development, we have independently developed the supercapacitor of 12000 FALA/ 3V (high-power type) and 30000 FALA /2.8V (high-energy type) respectively, representing top level in the world. Moreover, we blaze the trail in developing energy-stored trams/ electric vehicles powered by supercapacitors, which attracted public attention and revolutionized the entire rail transportation.
