CRRC plans to expand ops in Perak

China Railway Rolling Stock Corp (CRRC) plans to expand the operation of its rolling stock center in Batu Gajah, Perak, as it is eyeing to capture opportunities in the ASEAN market.

The center, which is CRRC’S manufacturing hub in south–east Asia, commenced its full operation in October last year.

Its general manager LI Hong told Xinhua that the rolling stock center would focused one three operations-manufacturing, overhaul as well as service and maintenance in the near future.

To date, the rolling center has the capacity to manufacture up to 200 carriages per year.

Our first product manufactured here was six electric train service for Malaysia.

We are currently working on the second order comprising 15 trains for the Ampang line of the Light Rapid Transit (LRT) network in kuala Lumper,” he said.

Li pointed out that CRRC has the capacity to build trains for major railway, intercity line and urban mass transit.

We could build subway cars, LTR cars as well as for high-speed rail, electric locomotive, magnetic levitation cars as well as cars for both meter gauge and standard gauge,” he said.

For the car overhaul service, LI said the company was in the midst of building a facility and expected the operation to start by year-end or early next year.

We are looking at the prospect of manufacturing high-speed trains in this local facility”, Li said, given the Malaysian government’s plan to expand its railway network which include the cross-border high-speed railway linking Kuala Lumper and Singapore.
