On October 10, local time, the first locally-produced meter-gauge EMUs of ETS2 by CRRC Rolling Stock Center (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd was rolled off the assembly line. It was the first EMUs designed with business seats in Malaysia.

The launching ceremony of meter-gauge EMUs of ETS2 was held by Malaysia’s Ministry of Transport in Ipoh, promoting the EMUs manufactured by Malaysia’s local staff. Anthony Loke Siew Fook and Ahmad Faizal Azu delivered speeches respectively, and his Highness Nazrin Shah announced that the meter-gauge EMUs of ETS2 was officially rolled off the assembly line.

Malaysia meter-gauge EMUs of ETS was put into operation in 2015. It shuttles between Kuala Lumpur and Padang Buksa (locoted in the border between Malaysia and Thailand). It has average daily passenger volume of over 10,000. At present, the Ministry of Transport of Malaysia is stepping up the electrification of the railway from the section of Gemas to Johor Bahru, and the EMU will then run through the entire territory of Malaysia (Malay Peninsula).

ETS2 is the third EMUs customized by CRRC ZELC for Malaysia after SCS and ETS projects. The localized manufacturing of ETS2 witnessed the continuous deepening of China-Malaysia friendship.
