On March 28 (local time), CRRC Zhuzhou Locomotive Co, Ltd (hereinafter referred to as CRRC ZELC) signed a procurement contract, totally 2 electric locomotives, with Nikola Tesla Thermal Power Plant located in Obrenovac town, Belgrade, Serbia.

Nikola Tesla Thermal Power Plant, a wholly state-owned subsidiary company under Electric Power Industry Serbian, established in 1991. Our freight railway line transits 25 million tons of coal each year, which is the busiest freight line in Balkan region, even busier than Serbian National Railway Corporation’s railway line, said Nikola Tomić, the manager from railway department of Nikola Tesla Thermal Power Plant.

As we know Belgrade is the capital of Serbia, river Danube traverses the city. Obrenovac, governed by Belgrade, is located in the centre of the country, 30km away from the capital.

Mr.Kang, a designer from CRRC ZELC, said the locomotive, with maximum operating speed of 140 KM, 7000kW power and tractive effort of 4500 tons on level and tangent track, would apply to standard track, be designed to comply with EN and TSI European standard. CRRC ZELC will manufacture the locomotive based on its advanced design platform and rich experiences in overseas projects.

Mr.Luo Chongfu, vice president of CRRC ZELC, said China-made electric locomotive would run in Serbia for the first time after the award of contract. With rich experience in designing and developing electric locomotives, CRRC ZELC has provided more than 7000 sets of electric locomotives to Chinese mainland, South Africa, Iran, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Malaysia and Ethiopia over the past six decades. Entry into European market helps Chinese enterprises “going global” and “rooted there”, as well as makes an example for enriching market and product categories.
