XRTE, belongs to CRRC corporation Limited, has become a large state-owned enterprise with the initiative in designing and manufacturing railway tank car in domestic market and that kind enterprise serving for freight wagon manufacture and repair, passenger car repair and production of freight car parts and fittings. And it is the backbone enterprise of producing and repairing freight wagon, leading the development of tank car industry by means of designing and manufacturing and setting down the standard. By 2008, the company has been already on the list of Chinese machinery industry top 500.
      Before XRTE, the enterprise was called CRRC Group Xi’an Rolling Stock Works. It was established in 1938 and located at San Qiao town in the western suburb of Xi’an city with its original name “Chang An Locomotive San Qiao Rolling Stock Factory”. At that time the factory was belonged to Long Hai Railway Administration of the Ministry of Communication under the government of Republic of China and it only has 50 employees, but was the earlier state-own enterprise in Xi’an.
      After Xi’an has been liberated on 20th May, 1949, the factory belonged to Xi’ an suboffice of Long Hai Railway Administration, occupied 187,000 m2 with simple factory building 2479m2, 79 households in 3650m2, 35 old equipments and 402employees.
      1953, the factory was renamed to “San Qiao Wagon Repair Works” mainly for repairing passenger cars and freight cars, belonged to Bureau of Locomotive Rolling Stock Repairing of Ministry of Railway, and was placed as one project of national first Five-year Plan and forth-class workshop. 1956, it was placed as third-class workshop.
      1958,it was renamed to “San Qiao Rolling Stock Works” for both manufacturing and repairing, belonged to Administration of Locomotive Rolling Stock Repairing of Ministry of Railway. Successfully trial-manufactured the first C6 Gondola Car has put an end to the history of non-manufacture of wagon.
      1963, the works renamed to “Xi’an Rolling Stock Works of Ministry of Railway”, belonged to Locomotive General Administration of Ministry of Railway.
      The Rolling Stock Works successfully developed the first G12 tank car for viscous oil in 1965, which was the mark of new starting of tank car development, laid the foundation for it to become the designing and manufacturing base of Chinese railway tank car.
      1970, because combination of three ministries (ministry of communication, ministry of railway and ministry of post and telecommunication), the works renamed to “Xi’an Rolling Stock Works of Ministry of Communication”. But in 1975, it changed back to “Xi’an Rolling Stock Works of Ministry of Railway”.
      1989, the woks became national second-grade enterprise.1992, the works was identified to be national second-level large enterprise and to be national first-level large enterprise in 1993. In 1994, the works renamed to “Xi’an Rolling Stock Works”, belonged to China Locomotive Rolling Stock Industry Corporation, and became one of the national top 500 enterprises with the largest operating scale. 1998, the works was include among the national top1000 large and medium-sized enterprises of the year.
      With the reform of China Railway Industry went deeper in 2002, China Locomotive Rolling Stock Industry Corporation delinked with the Ministry of Railway and established northern and southern group corporations respectively. In September 2002, the works renamed to “CRRC Xi’an Rolling Stock Works” and belonged to CRRC Group Corporation.
      At the beginning of the year 2007, CRRC Group Corporation put forward the plan of “speeding up the reform of joint stock”. So in July, XRTE was built up and formally became a company-system enterprise.
