Power-distributed tilting diesel multiple unit (DMU)

From: 2016-05-06

Featuring advanced tilt technology, the power-distributed tilting diesel-hydraulic multiple unit (DHMU) is a type of 160km/h Class tilting multiple unit developed by CNR Tangshan Railway Vehicle Co., Ltd. When negotiating a curve, its car body can tilt 0-8° so that ride comfort of passengers is greatly improved; the radial bogie featuring advanced technologies is used to significantly reduce wheel-rail force and wheel-rail abrasion when the train is negotiating the curve so that its curve negotiation speed will be 20%-30% higher than that of common passenger cars; a number of other advanced technologies including QSK19 horizontal diesel engine from CUMMINS (U.S.A.), T311R hydraulic transmission gear box from VOITH (Germany), and electro-mechanical tilt system (tilt technology) from ESW (Germany) are used on this train to ensure safety and reliability. This vehicle is especially suitable for speedup operation of the passenger trains on existing standard-gauge railway main lines.

The passenger saloons on this EMU fall into first-class car passenger saloon and second-class car passenger saloon. The whole train is provided with passenger TV systems. Each first-class car is provided with business compartments and passenger information system. Passengers can select from more than 100 sets of films and TV programs, play Internet games, and inquire about tourism related information. The interior decoration of the EMU is concise, lucid and lively, cozy, and graceful. All doors on the whole train are automatic sliding type. All these build a safe and comfortable travel environment for passengers.

At present, this EMU is running in 2 forms of formation.

1st form of formation: Mc1 car (motor car with driver’s cab) + M1 (motor car without driver’s cab) + M2 (motor car without driver’s cab) +Mc2 (motor car with driver’s cab). M1, M2, and Mc2 are all second-class seating cars. Some types of Mc1 are provided with a first-class passenger saloon and other types are provided with a second-class passenger saloon (hereinafter referred to as 4M formation).

2nd form of formation: Mc1 car (motor car with driver’s cab) + M1 (motor car without driver’s cab) + T (trailer car of second-class seating car) +M2 (motor car without driver’s cab) + Mc2 (motor car with driver’s cab). M1, M2, and Mc2 are all second-class seating cars. Some types of Mc1 are provided with a first-class passenger saloon and other types are provided with a second-class passenger saloon.
