Protection from CRRC SRI’s Brake System for Safe Operation of Urban Rail Train on Jinan R3 Line

A few days ago, CRRC SRI won the bulk order of brake system for 31 urban trainsets (186 cars) on Jinan rail transit line R3. This is another bulk order obtained by CRRC SRI for urban rail brake system after Dalian Jinpu Line, Qingdao Line 2 and Shenzhen Line 9 extension etc.

With a total length of 34.5km, Jinan rail transit line R3 is important for the construction of south-north fast express corridor. The 6-car trainset adopts B2 type electric passenger car, and the configuration scheme of motor and trailer cars is 2:1 with running speed of 100km/h.

As the safety “guardian” of train operation, the brake system is the core system that determines the safety of vehicle operation. The brake system customized by the CRRC SRI for the Jinan R3 Line consists of a bogie-controlled brake system, an air source system and a basic brake device. The whole brake system adopts the modular design concept and uses the mature product platform for design, which ensures the reliability of the product and improves the convenience of product operation and maintenance.

The control core component of the brake system for Jinan R3 Line is the bogie-controlled brake unit, which is the "brain" of the entire brake system. The control unit is responsible for the train braking force control and determines the train parking performance. It receives the command from the driver controller or ATO (train automatic driving system) to control the brakes to ensure the precise parking. The train braking accuracy error of Jinan R3 Line does not exceed 30 cm.

The air source system that supplies compressed air to the entire train is the "heart" of the brake system. It provides clean and dry compressed air for the air equipments to ensure the normal air demand of the equipments. The system uses an oil-free scroll-type air compressor. The compressor adopts oil-free compression technology without the risk of oil penetration and leakage during use, and you don’t need to add or replace the lubricating oil in the life cycle of almost 30 years, reducing the maintenance workload and facilitating the user. .

The basic brake device uses a disc type brake device, which is the "limbs" of the brake system. With compact structure, the device is composed of a brake disc, a composite brake pad and a brake caliper unit, and has the characteristics of high braking efficiency, thus the braking effect is greatly improved compared with the tread brake and it can ensure the safe operation of the train.

CRRC SRI has been engaged in brake technology research and product development for nearly 60 years. The brake products are widely used in EMUs, urban rail trains, locomotives, passenger cars, wagons and other rail transit vehicles. CRRC SRI is one of the first units that master the technology of direct electric-pneumatic brake controlled by urban rail computer, is also the one of the two units approved by the National Development and Reform Commission with the production and promotion qualification of urban rail brake system.

The urban rail brake products of CRRC SRI mainly include 3 platforms and 5 product series, covering distributed vehicle-controlled brake system, integrated vehicle-controlled brake system, bogie-controlled brake system, tread and disc basic brake devices, which have been used in more than 10 urban rail lines and are in good condition at home and abroad.
