High Strength Helical Coupler & Buffer System and Elastomer Side Buffer

The strength of the existing helical coupler is only 850 kN and the performance of its buffer system and side buffer isn’t good, which leads to the limited consist of train and the impossibility of increasing the running speed. The high strength helical coupler & buffer system and the elastomer side buffer were developed to solve these problems. According to the calculation from dynamic model of car, an 850 kN coupler plus a helical spring side buffer can draw 10 to 12 cars for normal operation at 120 km/h, while a 1800 kN coupler plus an elastomer side buffer can draw 20 to 24 cars for normal operation at 140 km/h. The behavior of the elastomer side buffer is far better than that of helical spring side buffer. The repair cycle of the elastomer side buffer is up to an overhaul cycle.
