Graphite mold cast steel wheel technology originated in the United States in 1965. In 1974, cast steel wheels were incorporated into the standards of the International Union of Railway (UIC). In the 1980’s, with its reliability and sound performance, cast steel wheel technology replaced forged wheel technology as the preferred freight car wheel technology in North America. In the 1990’s, the market shares of cast steel wheel technology reached 90% in North America. During this time, many countries imported the technology and equipment to manufacture cast steel wheels locally. Specifically, it was extended to Australia, Brazil, South Africa, Mexico, Canada and India, among others.

By adopting advanced US technologies including “graphite mold sand cake, concentrated riser feeding and directional solidification”, advanced manufacturing techniques and quality management tools, Datong ABC Castings Company (DACC) designs and produces different types of cast steel wheels with diameters ranging from 750mm to 1050mm. The wheels satisfy the needs of 25t axle load and above and speeds up to 120 km/h. Datong ABC products fully comply with the stringent manufacturing and performance standards of AAR M107/208, AAR M1003, and China Railway Standard TB/T 1013-1999. These products are the ideal choice for freight car manufacturers around the world.
