On October 17, 2019, Colombian President Duque, Vice President Ramirez, Bogota Mayor Antonio Penalosa, and Transport Minister Orosco attended the award ceremony of the Bogota Metro, and a Chinese consortium, including CRRC Changchun Railway Vehicles Co., Ltd., won the bid for the Bogota Metro Line 1 project.

Colombian President Ernesto Duque announced the winning bid in Bogota on the same day, saying that the project is landmark, and Bogota citizens' decades of "Metro Dream" will come true.

As the designated vehicle supplier of the China Enterprise Consortium, CRRC Changchun Railway Vehicles Co., Ltd. is responsible for the supply of 210 GoA4 driverless subway vehicles of the highest grade and vehicle maintenance for 20 years. Bogota Metro is designed to be 23.96 km in length, in the form of an unmanned elevated metro. The project includes design, construction, supply, operation and a total contract period of 28 years. The project will be the largest single-unit rail transit project to be awarded by Chinese enterprises through international bidding.

Colombia is the fourth largest economy in Latin America. Bogota, with a population of about 7.2 million, has serious urban congestion. When the first subway line is completed, Bogota will become the second city in Colombia to have a subway system, after Medellin, Colombia's second-largest city.
