China's next-generation carbon fiber metro successfully tested

On June 19th, the next-generation metro developed by CRRC Qingdao Sifang successfully finished their trial run on a test line this Wednesday in Qingdao, east China’s Shandong province.

The latest metro adopted substantial new technologies and materials, representing the future trend of metro development, known as the “future metro”. They are expected to lead the upgrading of metro technologies and make metro trips more enjoyable.

According to Ding Sansan, deputy chief engineer of CRRC Qingdao Sifang, the metro are lighter and more energy efficient. They are built with the most advanced carbon fiber technology, and are 13 percent lighter than the previous generation. Thanks to the newest silicon carbide inverter and permanent-magnet synchronous motor, the metro could reduce energy consumption by more than 15 percent compared with traditional models.

The windows of the next-generation metro have been turned into huge-screen computers that make the glass look like huge iPad. Passengers can surf the internet and watch videos with a simple click.

The metro has a top speed of 140 km/h, which is faster than the traditional product. The running process is fully automatic driving. The vehicle is equipped with a powerful intelligent monitoring and early warning system to sense the train status in real time and realize early warning of the fault. At the same time, by establishing a “health file”, the train is actively involved in maintenance when the train is in the “sub-health” state, and the traditional “planned repair” is upgraded to an advanced “state repair” to achieve intelligent maintenance and improve vehicle safety ability.

In addition, the new sound-proof materials applied can reduce the noise inside the cars by over 5 dB, and the new facilities, such as smart air conditioners and smart lighting, will also create a more comfortable ride for passengers.
