On December 21, production of the first metro vehicle designed and manufactured by CRRC Sifang for the metro lines in downtown of Hong Kong was finished. The vehicle is the first trainset of the largest metro vehicle project in China, and also the metro vehicle with the highest fire protection standards.

In 2015, CRRC Sifang successfully won the metro vehicle purchase project for the metro lines in downtown of Hong Kong during the international competitive bidding. The project is composed of 93 trainsets (744 cars), which is the largest new vehicle purchase in the history of MTR, and also the largest metro vehicle order in China. These metro vehicles will be put into the service of the Kwun Tong Line, Tsuen Wan Line, Island Line and Tseung Kwan O Line of the downtown area of Hong Kong.

The metro vehicles for the metro lines in downtown of Hong Kong adopt stainless steel car body. The highest operating speed is 80km/h. The largest passenger capacity of an 8-car-grouping vehicle exceeds 3000 people. The vehicle design is based on the mature metro vehicle technology platform of CRRC Sifang. By drawing on the MTR’s experience in metro operation and maintenance, the vehicles are designed and manufactured according to the advanced international standards, which are featured with remarkable performance in safety, reliability and coziness.

The first trainset of which the production was finished has finished its type tests in the factory. The next step is to deliver the vehicle to Hong Kong for running tests. According to the plan, the first trainset’s commissioning is estimated to be finished in the second half of 2018, and the vehicle will be ready for online service. The delivery of all 93 trainsets of the project will be finished in 2023.
