Recently, CRRC signed a supply agreement for passenger diesel multiple units (DMU) with Etihad Rail of the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The agreement covers 21 DMUs with an operational speed of 200km/h, optional additional purchase of up to 140 units, and 15 years of repair and maintenance service of all related trains. This is the first export of China’s passenger DMU to UAE, which will help UAE to establish its first trunk railway passenger service.
The DMUs are power-centralized high-speech diesel multiple units. Each DMU consists of 7 units, with a maximum operational speed of 200km/h and a design speed of 220km/h, making it the DMU with the highest speed in the world. Based on UAE’s railway operational needs, the DMU is built with advanced international standards and technologies, accommodating the special operating environment of UAE with characteristics like high temperature and sandstorm.
As China’s first operational railway passenger vehicle project for export to UAE, the project is another important achievement of the alignment between the Belt and Road Initiative and UAE’s development plan of “Projects for the Coming 50 Years”. It will play a positive role in building UAE’s modern passenger railway network, promoting UAE’s economic and social development, and creating more benefits for local people.
