Recently, witnessed by Egypt’s president Sisi, the electric multiple unit (EMU) developed by CRRC Sifang departed from Cairo’s Adly Mansour Station with passengers onboard, starting the trial operation in Ramadan 10 City of Egypt.

The EMU developed by CRRC Sifang is Egypt’s first city EMU. With a maximum speed of 120km/h, the EMU comprises 6 carriages with a capacity of 2222 passengers. The EMU is equipped with modern technologies, and works well in the desert environment featuring sand and dust, high temperature and strong sunlight. The EMU is designed and manufactured according to multiple advanced international standards, and its performance has reached the advanced international level.

The Ramadan 10 City railway project is an important transport project of Egypt’s efforts to implement the country’s “Eastward Development” strategy and to build its “Eastern Economic Corridor”. The EMU supply contract between China and Egypt was signed in 2018, and the first EMU rolled off the line in 2021 and the delivery started since. Before operation started, the EMU went through the onsite routine test and type test in Egypt for half a year. After the EMU is put into operation, the “China-made” train will become an important means of transport between Cairo and the new administrative capital, making travelling easier for close to 5 million residents in more than 10 satellite cities along the line.
