How could CRRC enter Germany?

On June 20, 2018, Berlin, Germany,CRRC Zhuzhou Locomotive Co., Ltd. signed a framework agreement on 20 new hybrid power locomotives and an order for 4 locomotives of the first batch with Deutsche Bahn (DB). It was the first time that Chinese locomotives entered the manufacturing power Germany, indicating that complete Chinese rail transit equipment gained recognition in the world high-end market.

Locomotives in the agreement are called as shunting locomotives professionally. They are designed according to TSI (Technical Specification for Interoperability)  and EBA access requirements of German railway network and use the electric driving method of "third rail + Diesel + lithium battery" hybrid power. The maximum power of the whole locomotive at wheel rim is 750 kilowatts and the maximum speed per hour is 100km. Such locomotives may operate on German trunk railway network, TEN sections and Berlin light rail lines and are mainly used for logistics supply, testing and engineering traction on the railway construction site.

Liao Hongtao, the Deputy General Manager of CRRC Zhuzhou Locomotive Co., Ltd. and the Chairman of the Board of Director  of CRRC Zhuzhou Locomotive (Europe) Co., Ltd., said, "Germany is a high-end market of rail transit equipment in the world. CRRC Zhuzhou Locomotive Co., Ltd. has always been focusing on advanced technologies, learning positively, endeavoring to follow up and seeking for communication and cooperation with major operators of European railway represented by DB in every way so as to improve our own innovation ability." In 2016, CRRC Zhuzhou Locomotive Co., Ltd. became qualified as a highest-level (level Q1) supplier of DB and obtained the permit for serving the German market. In 2017, CRRC Zhuzhou Locomotive Co., Ltd. cooperated with DB and developed "Diesel+ super-capacitor or storage battery" hybrid power shunting locomotives jointly. The production of such locomotives have been finished and will be sent to Hamburg, Germany. Their mutual trust has been improved constantly.

This is one of the reasons. Just as Liao Hongtao said, the close cooperation, collaborative innovation and win-win and sharing relation of CRRC and DB and the extreme exertion of synergistic effect and value" by them are an important reason for the entry of CRRC into Germany. There were many good stories about CRRC and German enterprises in collaborative innovation and developing the third-party market jointly in the history of Sino-Germany economy and trade.

The path to the manufacturing power Germany was of course not smooth. CRRC locomotives had entered many corners on the global six continents before entering Germany.

For example, in Europe, CRRC Zhuzhou Locomotive Co., Ltd. provided Turkey with high-end urban rail vehicles, Macedonia with comfortable MUs, Austria with customized "super-capacitor + storage battery hybrid power" shunting locomotives and energy storage-type trolley buses, and Serbia with electric locomotives and developed EMUs for Czech Republic.... In Macedonia, MUs made by CRRC have made their appearance on its national stamps.

Products "Made by CRRC" had entered traditional industrial powers such as England and France successfully before. Its entry into Germany this time manifests the actual strength of CRRC and meanwhile is a new starting point for the collaborative innovation and win-win and sharing relation of China and Europe.
