In the afternoon of March 23, the completion ceremony for main works of the XRL (Hong Kong section) was held at the West Kowloon Station and presided over by Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor, the Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, who announced that the main works of XRL at Hong Kong had finished 99% and was confident that the Hong Kong section would be open to traffic by September this year. Furthermore, MTR named the nine express trains as "Vibrant Express".

On the ceremony, Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor and Frederick Ma, the Chairman of MTR, unveiled the name for these Hong Kong express trains. MTR held a contest previously inviting the public to give names to Hong Kong express trains, and the evaluation committee finally chose "Vibrant Express", which indicates that Hong Kong is a vibrant city, and Hong Kong people and social economy is full of energy.

"I just arrived at the West Kowloon Station by train from Shek Kong parking lot. It only takes eight minutes, and the train is spacious and runs quietly and stably" said Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor. She further noted that opening of the XRL will connect Hong Kong to the national HSR network and bring Hong Kong citizens convenient and confortable cross-border services.

Frederick Ma announced that, MTR operators will gradually launch train tests from next month to prepare for the opening in September. From the 16,000 entry forms submitted by participants to the naming contest of the express trains, "Vibrant Express" is finally determined as the name of the nine trains.
