On March 10, 2018, CRRC was written on the metro trains of New York Metro—the benchmark for the world metro.
Since its opening in 1904, the New York Metro has now become the largest and busiest metro system in the world. Every year, repair and overhauling of thousands of metro cars are required. In order to relieve the pressure of metro operation and maintenance at present, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) of New York launched the Genius Challenge for New York Metro in June 2017 with the support of Governor Cuomo of New York State, to seek for solutions for improving the status of rail transit in New York from the industry in the world.
The “equilife and modular design concept of 20+20>40” put forward by CRRC finally stood out among 438 recommended solutions from 23 countries and CRRC won the championship in the challenge. Once again, the design and manufacturing capabilities of CRRC were witnessed by the world.
On March 9, 2018, Mr. Joseph J. Lhota (Chairman of MTA) presented the prize to the winner. Mr. Joseph J. Lhota said: “in the next step, we will hold a one-on-one meeting with CRRC to discuss the implementation plans.”
The quantity of metro cars for New York Metro is over 6,400. The rail transit system of New York Metro is well developed. The line has a long history. The window demonstration effect of New York Metro in the global rail transit industry is significant. This award demonstrates that the American rail industry highly recognizes the “solutions of CRRC”.
