Great progress has been made in the project "Key Technologies of High-speed Maglev Transportation System" issued by State Key Research and Development Commission. The technical solution of the 600 km/h high-speed maglev traffic system was approved by experts in Qingdao on January 25. According to the plan, a section of prototype will be developed in 2018; in 2020, a high-speed maglev vehicle with a speed of 600 kilometers per hour will be developed and a 5-km test line will be verified.

According to the introduction, the high-speed maglev transportation system is composed of maglev vehicle, ground traction control, operation control, line track system, etc., involving many disciplines and specialties, which is a systems engineering with very high technical difficulty. The project adopts an innovative mode integrating production, education, research and application, led by CRRC Sifang Co., Ltd. along with 15 domestic enterprises, universities and scientific research institutes.

19 well-known academicians and experts were invited to participate in the assessment. The expert group unanimously agreed to pass the program for they believed that the high-speed maglev transportation system has realized accurate technical position, correct technical route by adopting the feasible technical scheme combining the mature normal conducting technology and the permanent magnet electromagnetic hybrid suspension technology with Chinese characteristics.
