CRRC's Target: Global Leader in Core Technology of Future New Energy Vehicle Industry

"By 2025, an industrial scale of selling 300,000 vehicles, one million electric drive systems and 20 GWh energy-storage assembly will have been achieved, making CRRC even closer to the goal of becoming a global leading brand in new energy vehicle industry." This is CRRC's target in future new energy vehicle industry.

On January 20, Sun Yongcai, general manager of CRRC Group Co., Ltd. and president of CRRC Corporation Limited shared with the attendees the history and prospects of CRRC in new energy vehicle industry on China EV100 Forum. He said that CRRC will become a domestic or even global leader in core technology of new energy vehicle industry in the future.

The operation of CRRC developed bullet train "Fuxing" at a speed of 350 km/h on the railway line between Beijing and Shanghai ushered in a new era for high-speed railway development led by China. Apart from the "Fuxing" EMU, CRRC has developed a full range of products represented by high-speed EMUs, high-power locomotives, urban rail vehicles, and railway wagons, making it the largest trail transit equipment supplier in the world with complete range of products and state-of-art technology. It should be noted that CRRC has formed a complete industrial chain in the field of new energy vehicles.

The sales volume of CRRC's new energy buses has increased from about 10 sets in 2007 to nearly 7,000 sets in 2017, covering nearly 100 cities in China, making CRRC one of the TOP 4 manufacturers in the industry. The sales of electric drive systems for commercial vehicles in 2017 registered over 20,000 sets. And the new orders of electric drive systems for passenger vehicles reached 1.80 million sets. CRRC has now grown into a leading brand in Chinese new energy vehicle market, with a complete industrial chain covering material, devices, compartments and systems come into shape.

 

CRRC Focuses on Development of "Commercial Vehicles" and "Three Electrics" by Resource Integration in the Next Two Years

The development of future transportation system will present three major trends: the transformation of transportation tools to modern integrated transportation system, of power system to high-end, intelligent and networked system, and of energy supply to green, circulated and safe one. CRRC will focus on the development of the following two major business by resource integration in the next two years: a pillar industry centered on commercial vehicles, and a supporting industry with "Three Electrics" (i.e., power battery, drive motor and vehicle electronic control) as the core.

Achieve "L4" Automatic Driving by 2025

In terms of intelligent driving of commercial vehicles, CRRC will speed up to realize pilot operation of "L3" intelligent driving, achieve mass application by the end of the "13th Five-Year Plan", and realize "L4" automatic driving by 2025.

With regard to vehicles, CRRC will make efforts to form series of passenger and special vehicles. Combined with mature lightweight aluminum alloy and composite material technology in rail transit, CRRC may reduce the weight by 30%, and the energy consumption by 20% for an entire vehicle by modular, standardized and collaborative design.

With regard to the development of passenger vehicles, CRRC will create a series of new energy urban buses ranging from 6 m to 18 m. Such buses may operate satisfactorily in high temperature, bitter coldness, high altitude, water wading and other complex environment, and realize such functions as automatic charging of overhead pantograph, intelligent active safety, passenger information interaction and automatic driving, gradually.

With regard to the development of special vehicles, CRRC will develop a production line of special vehicles covering 2.5 tons to 7.5 tons based on the carrier of general multifunctional electric chassis.

Moreover, in terms of control assembly, CRRC will achieve multi-function, multi-unit converter control and vehicle control integration, with the power density of motor control module reaching 30kWh per liter; in terms of transmission assembly, CRRC will create a power transmission unit with in-depth E&M coupling, making the maximum mechanical transmission efficiency greater than 95%; in terms of energy storage system, CRRC will develop a series of products with the energy indicator reaching 170 watt-hours per kilogram; in terms of core devices, CRRC will launch wide bandgap semiconductor products based on "double-side cooling IGBT module assembly" and "silicon carbide" technology to promote the progress of "Chinese core" technology in new energy vehicle industry. Meanwhile, CRRC will accelerate the localization of key sensors for new energy vehicles, and strive to achieve application of such sensors over 5 million pieces during the "13th Five-Year Plan".

Mr. Sun said that through the above measures, CRRC will form an industrial scale of selling 300,000 vehicles, one million electric drive systems and 20 GWh energy-storage assembly by 2025, making CRRC a leader in new energy vehicle industry in China or even in world stage.
