Is it possible to realize "self-driving, self-diagnosis, self-decision-making, self-control and self-recovery” for the high-speed railway in the future?

Yes! We are getting closer and closer to this goal.

The “rolling stock prognostics and health management system” launched by CRRC on the occasion of the InnoTrans 2018 is a classic work for achieving this goal, and will bring about breakthroughs in fields such as intellectualization, high reliability, low cost, energy saving and environmental protection.

The “rolling stock prognostics and health management system” includes integrated advanced sensing, diagnosis, prognosis and decision making, providing onboard performance sensing, real-time analysis, distributed processing, real-time communications, intelligent decision making and precision execution. In addition, this system is capable of rapid response.

This feature is first reflected in the “real-time data acquisition”. This system collects real-time prognosis and health management data from the key systems, including the traction and brake systems as well as the bogies; those data are then transmitted to the onboard prognosis and health management unit through the train’s network. The onboard prognosis and health management system gathers performance data from the train and its key parts, stores the data locally, integrates and cleans up the real-time data, and extracts features. Additionally, the system will display status, and provide fault warnings, fault diagnosis and fault prognosis.

The “intelligent robot” exhibited at the exhibition is mainly used for rolling stock inspection and maintenance, and can carry out all-round visual inspections for sub-carriage sections, facilitating the safe and reliable operation of trains.

CRRC is striving to become a “value creator serving the integrated transportation” and is committed to providing integrated rail transit solutions for customers all over the world. The “rolling stock prognostics and health management system” is based on the experience gained in the operation of enormous rolling stocks in China, the operating mileage and the data accumulated from the complex operational environment; the system is reliable, accurate and stable.

This system will improve the safety, reliability and economic efficiency, as well as the service level for operation of rail transit equipment.
